The Reds accepted the offer after receiving what the club believed was a fair market value offer.
Throughout the summer, Liverpool were reluctant to sell key first-team players. But Diaz and his agent pushed for him to move. He first signalled his desire to move in the summer of 2024. But the club remained adamant about evaluating both the squad and the market.
Liverpool tried to agree a contract extension twice but were unsuccessful as the offer and demands were too wide, and after Diaz helped the club win their 20th Premier League title, Liverpool reluctantly gave in to his request.
Diaz moved to Liverpool in January 2022 for a guaranteed fee of £37.5 million (€42.9 million), signing a five-and-a-half-year contract.
